Over the past few months, I’ve been photographing LGBTQIA+ people across Wales and sitting down with each person for a recorded conversation about their identity, their experiences of being part of the queer community in 2026 and, most importantly, where they find their queer joy.

The resulting exhibition brings together black-and-white portraits with each participant’s own words and stories.

Those conversations have been funny, tender, challenging, hopeful and, at times, fiercely political. We’ve talked about identity, chosen family, creativity, migration, activism, resistance, finding your people and the freedom to live authentically.

And one of the things I’ve come back to again and again while making this project is that queer joy doesn’t necessarily mean everything is joyful.

Sometimes joy is soft and silly. Sometimes it’s loud and defiant.

And sometimes, joy itself can be an act of resistance.
